Look on Twitter and Blogs for Updates

As you may have noticed, the 1D teachers have not been posting to this blog much in the past few months. We have discovered
and we are hooked! Parents have connected to their children's learning journals and students independently create Seesaw posts as they go about their day. Occasionally teachers also send photos and other updates as well. In addition, the teachers post to our classroom Twitter account @CAFirstGrade. You can click on the Twitter this link to check us out on Twitter.

So....continue to use this blog for routine information about first grade such as our specials schedule and curriculum information, but please know that we are using Seesaw and Twitter to share daily news.

Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza

We read The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza

Morning Question: What type of pizza do you like to eat?
Who will help Mrs. Simmons make the pizza?

"We will!" said the 1D Superstars. Each student made his/her own biscuit pizza.

We remembered the steps so we could write them down later.
We are learning about sequencing so we know it is important to
put events in the correct order. This is especially important
in how-to writing!

First, flatten the dough.

Next, spread the sauce.

 Then add cheese and toppings.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.

ENJOY!
Time to eat!

YUM!

Next time you want pizza, ask a 1D friend to help!

Maps and Globes

Seven Continents Song
We've been having fun learning about maps and globes. We read What is a Map? and Me on the Map and we are thinking about the differences between city, state, country, and continent. If would be a terrific home/school connection if the 1D Superstars could work at home on learning their address - house number, street name, city and state. We will be connecting the Me on the Map theme to technology when we explore Google Earth later this week.

Reading Workshop

Reading Mo Willems books!
Elephant and Piggie are so funny!

We continue to learn routines for Reading Workshop. We know that some days we will have "paperwork" to do. This week we had the chance to do a mini book review. Every 1D Superstar read and responded to a Mo Willems book. We also read Little Red Hen and completed a Remember the Story page. These pages help us to think about our reading.
